Comfort Inn & Suites Gunnison-Crested Butte

I've been meaning to post a review for our stay here but unfortunately, have delayed. We stayed here in September of 2025 (I believe it was the 19th?). I can't remember which room.we were in. We've stayed a couple of times prior to that and have never experienced any issues. And while the concerns I had weren't deal breakers, it seems as though the pride in their building has gone significantly downhill - much of these concerns were relating to cleanliness/upkeep of the room. There's free breakfast - which was quite expansive with various options, which was nice. I stayed in a room had two double beds in it.|The first thing I do when I enter a room with two beds, is to lie down on each bed and decide which one is most comfortable for me to sleep on, with regard to firmness of the mattress. ||The bed closest to the window had several brown stains on the sheets. |Unfortunately for me, this bed was the most comfortable to sleep on. |Due to the unclean stained sheets, I chose to avoid that bed and sleep on the less comfortable (but unsoiled), harder mattress bed.||I found it difficult to fall asleep in my clean, but hard mattress bed, but eventually did. |At about 1:00am, I woke up uncomfortable on that hard bed. Going downhill fast!|| I’ve visited this hotel 2-3 times a year for the past 4 yrs. My brother lives a block away and said he heard there was an ownership change a couple yrs ago, but not 100% sure on that. This place used to be a hidden gem. It was in a great price range for most people, it was clean, breakfast was really good, etc. Over the past 2 yrs, every time I stay here it gets a little bit worse. It’s not a hidden gem anymore. In my opinion, it’s now the quality of an $80 or so lower quality place. It still looks decent when you walk in. It’s pretty clean and the staff is nice. I’ve noticed so many little things changed to increase the owners bottom line. Instead of the breakfast area opening at 6am, they now open at 6:15. That’s 15 less minutes to increase profits. In

When I made the reservation, I used my credit card to secure the reservation. The person I was traveling with was going to pay for the room. I asked if I could present a different card at check in for payment and was told yes. I also asked if I could cancel reservation if necessary. I was told I could cancel all the way up to Tues 9/16, before the check in day Wed 9/17. When we checked in I was told the card used for reservation was already used and a different card could not be used. Indeed it was charged on my account shortly after the reservation. Also I got an email saying I was asked if I wanted the option to cancel before if necessary and I declined. That was false. Bathroom was filthy. Fecal matter splashed on wall by toilet. Tub was very dirty as well. Pool area was moldy. Hot tub was frigid and had green mold all around the concrete edge. Phone did not work in the room. Front desk was notified, she came to room and acted like everything worked fine. She picked up the phone and said she didn’t know what it didn’t work. No follow up from staff regarding cleaning either.
