Candlewood Suites Miami Lakes, an IHG Hotel

The candlewood suites in Miami was my worst hotel stay experience ever. The website on candlewood suites shows updated rooms and photos of everything being new. But when I walked in to the hotel, it was in a very dilapidated condition. The hallways were smelling of mildew and humidity and the rooms themselves needed repairs badly. I have taken pictures of the actual hotel room assigned to me to as proof of this experience. I had booked a two-bedroom suite with the reservation starting 31st December up to 5th January. Since I was traveling with my 3-month-old and 4-year-old daughter and in, I had called the hotel several times in advance to hold my room until January 1st morning since that was the arrival time of my flight. Positive: Staff was helpful, location is convenient. Comfortable bed and good climate control in room. Negative: Photos online make it look much fancier and more modern than it is in reality. My room looked like it had not seen a renovation since the 70s. But it WAS clean, bed was comfy, shower was hot, so the important stuff was all good.

I stayed at this location at the end of January (2026) after it was under new management and renovations were already completed. I had called before because I saw many negative reviews and wanted to give it a chance. I spoke to a gentleman - Hasan who was warm and he explained it is a new experience, new management, and renovations were completed. Truly when I arrived I received great service from Hasan. Unfortunately the renovated rooms were far below acceptable standard. I will attach pictures . Before I explain, I will say I saw that I observed some new furniture was added to the rooms but mixing old and new significantly affected the room quality. The hotel lobby in the comfort of the bed in the room are the only things that stood out in a positive way. The initial service wasn’t bad as well, but once we got to the elevator and headed to the room it felt like simply a rip off. I have been in better rooms in way cheaper, hotels or motels. The restroom was beyond bad. There was a Band-Aid in the drain of the tub a lot of patchwork and rust everywhere. The showerhead seem to be broken and the water pressure was very low.
