Quiet with very beautiful scenery..Must visit the summit overlook up past campground...do not go up with a trailer or large RV...not enough space to turn around at top. 360 degrees of amazing views. Loved the camp and surrounding area for sight seeing.

8 spots available for tents or campers. All back in spots. $6 night. At the base of burning coal vein parking lot. Watch for rattlesnakes. Pack it in, pack it out. No available trash cans. Following the signs from the highway is hard as some are missing. 30 miles south of Medora. Remote spot that hunter's like.

Couldn't really find the burning coal veins but still a basic campground. Nearby is one of the few roads that access the Little Missouri river. It's about a mile away from the campground. The NFS does a poor job of providing such access. But here's your chance.

The campground should be renamed Burnt Coal Vein Campground. Only after our visit did we learn that the fire in the nearby lignite vein went out years ago. Based on information easily available to us we found the campground and the nearby features shown in pictures. It s!ill was a nice ride on very good gravel roads.

I have always liked camping at this site whether in a tent or a camper. Always clean and well kept. Great for our SW North Dakota hunting excursions. I know it happened a long time ago but I really miss the shelters over the picnic tables.
