Billie's Backpackers Hostel

Billie's represents everything positive about the hostel experience. The shared kitchen is well-stocked, the rooms are clean, and the beds are comfy. The guests who stay here tend to be from around the world and represent a wide variety of ages. The hostel is set up in a manner that encourages gathering around the big communal table and chatting/eating/planning. Guests tend to be very friendly and outgoing, and of course Billie makes sure that everyone is comfortable and happy with their stay.

Stayed for a week in October. Hostel was located near a bus stop. Nice place to stay for the week and meet new people. There was a nice common room where you can make food and mingle with the other travelers. The basics are always in the kitchen like rice, oats, baking supplies, spices, pots and pans, and the free pile left from previous people. Be prepared to sleep in a hallway (where my bed was). I felt safe staying at Billie’s backpacking hostel as a solo traveler. Free bicycles with helmets and locks are offered. This was how I was able to go around the city if I didn’t want to take the bus system which is not 7 days a week. house was locked to people who were not staying at the hostel.

I spent four nights at Billie’s Hostel and it was such an amazing time there! Billie and Art were so welcoming and helped me out with questions I had even before I arrived. The hostel feels like home, the kitchen has utensils and spices for cooking, the dorms and bathrooms were clean. There are bus stops nearby that can get you downtown, to the university and to the airport easily.

Visited Billie’s in November 2025 and had a great experience. Billie is an amazing host with the help of Weston who was great to get along with. I definitely recommend a stay here for the great vibes and clean rooms/common area. Plenty of blankets if you’re cold during the cold months, heat is always on.

Billie's is a wonderful place. Billie and her son were great hosts. The other guests added to the pleasant experience of staying there. We were on a motorcycle trip from Florida to Deadhorse and spent three nights on the way up and two on the way down. Out of two months of traveling, Billie's was our most memorable. If I am ever back in Fairbanks, I hope she has a bed for me.
