Me and my family stayed there on a rainy day. It wasn't refundable so instead of hiking he drove up. It was still a very pleasant experience. The rooms were rustic (which I don't usually like) but it matched the mountain vibe and went perfectly with the lobby. The hotel was well lit and decorated. The breakfast was mediocre, and the dinner was rather expensive and the service wasn't great. We waited over an hour for our dinner and since it was served at seven we were eating after eight. However, the location on top of Mount Greylock was phenomenal. When we went it was a rainy day but when the fog cleared up we could see at least 40 miles; turn on a clear day you can see up to 90. It was so fun to me the Appalachian trail by the fireplace. We got to hike a ton of ourselves and enjoyed the s
This place is underrated. Keeping in mind that the lodge is at the top of a mountain at the end of a long winding road and that the primary purpose is to serve hikers, it is a special treat to experience the hospitality of the lodgekeepers. The rooms are simple but thoughtfully arranged for a comfortable stay. On the weekend we stayed, we were treated to a four-course jazz dinner—a surprisingly elegant experience in such a remote setting. Dinner reservations should be made before noon. Best of all, between dusk and dawn, we had the mountaintop almost entirely to ourselves, making for a peaceful, almost magical retreat above the world. This was our second stay at the lodge and we will return if possible.
This was our very first visit here with our family. We are respectful, kind people and in not sure what was happening this particular day but we were made to feel very unwelcome by the older gentleman stoking the fire (mind you he was grumpy all while my family purchased things). There was a woman there as well that seemed to be part of the maintenance staff perhaps, and she just kept staring at me. A lot. We sat around and warmed by the fire and had our snacks and left and the man was right behind us and shoved the door shut and locked it behind us immediately. We were all incredibly confused and discussed for hours what we might have done or said to have people treat us so bizarrely and rude. We checked the hours and they were open. Other people came in after we did and they were not giv
Pro: bathrooms, small cafe (Diet Coke!!), small gift shop, and dormitory style rooms with bunks available. Nice cafe staff that are kind and joyful. I did not stay at the lodge, but other AT hikers said it was fine. Con: doesn’t seem like you can make a reservation in person, and sounds like they prefer online bookings. The registration desk staff had little interest in others, or taking reservations over the phone. Pro: drinking water available at another building.
Built in 1932 authentic wood. Amazing lodge, just stopped while visiting the tower. There's great views outside. Bring a jacket, it gets chilly and windy.
