Atwell Mill Campground

It's definitely a gorgeous place to camp! However, getting there is NOT for those afraid of heights. The "road" is a 1 way 100 year old road currently under construction... there's an occasional need to accommodate 2 vehicles in the road at the same time. Primitive camping, no electricity, no water sites

I got reservations for this campground before I realized how far out this was located. Make sure you give yourself ample time to arrive in daylight otherwise you'll be driving down a very rough mountain road in the dark. 19 miles might not seem like a long way until you're driving it at 10 mile an hour in the dark. Also there is tons of construction along the road and the parks service should really not be taking reservations. We had to drive around and avoid all the construction vehicles, which at times was scary since the road is perched up on a mountain. Camping in the Sequoias was cool, but we had to leave super early so as not to get stuck in the construction. On the drive back we saw a really cool waterfall.

Good place to stop on the way to Mineral King hiking adventure. The mountain serpentine road to the campground will take you almost an hour to drive and is a bit tiring. Cold springs campground is a little further and more picturesque. At the time of our visit it was closed. Lots of firewood. Caution!!! Lots of trees are falling near by campground

Was a quiet campground. There were only a few people there on the other end. I was in site 21. Would definitely stay there again.

Mineral King Rd I do not recommend you to go there if you have a very small vehicle since it is a road more than 100 years old, it is a single lane. But the camp is 10 out of 10, one of my favorite places to camp... there is no reception, no electricity which makes it a wonderful place.... I will be back again on the future!
