Nice place to boondock. Just don't go beyond the camping area unless you have four wheel drive. Enough dispersed camping to have privacy. I found my Verizon was sketchy at best for signal. Depending on the time of year , it gets very windy-like hurricane winds , so keep in mind if you're tenting. When I went it was over ninety five degrees three days in a row. Toasty without a c. There's a vaulted toilet, but that's it. Please! be respectful of others camping-generators, loud music. Some of us go there for quiet isolation.
Primitive sites with just a fire ring. No trash or other services, Pack it in, Pack it out. A double pit toilet, clean and checked regularly. Quiet, secluded and a great place to park it for a few weeks. Stayed about a week and a half with a tent. Night skies are very much worth staying up late for. Wonderful hikes, take plenty of water and dress accordingly.
Arroyo Salado campground is a primative campground complete with fire pits and pit toilets. It is right off highway S22 and the exit is easily missed if not paying attention. Once you drive in there is a one way dirt road easily accessible by a 2wd sedan. There are about a dozen campsites each with their own fire pit. Sunrise is particularly amazing since you can see the a mist coming off the Salton Sea. I've been to Arroyo Salado twice, both times have been in January and the weather has always been chilly but not too cold. This being said it does get very windy around sunset. I burned though a 3 hour fire log in about 40 minutes. Next time I would wait till nightfall when the wind dies down and cook dinner then.
A fantastic free state park campground. Pit toilets, a bit of rough road for RVs but generally fine.
Beautiful and otherworldly! The pit restrooms were pretty well maintained. For ANY type of campers (especially tent), please be warned, it can get very very windy in some camp spots at night. Additionally, some of the spots are amidst eroded roads, and might not be worth trekking all the way back in the campground to find them if your car isn’t built for off-roading. Wish there was an actual flower bloom this year, but the sweeping views made up for it. Thanks Anza 🌸🩵we love you always.
