Ankeny #1 WDF Camp Area

Campsites with no privacy, but great lake access.

We've been camping and fishing here for the past 4 years. Upon arriving this year we found the camp ground had homeless tweakers living in it. The RV they had there was surrounded by a disabled vehicle and other garbage. Looked exactly like what you see on the news about homeless camps and how unsafe they are. As we come there to fish and enjoy the area in our boat, we didn't feel safe in the campground and especially did not want to leave our RV and vehicle behind to go out in our boat. Hopefully WDFW does something about it and monitors they area more closely. The one star rating is the minimum rating, otherwise it would have been a zero star rating.

Nice area, hadn't been there in 30 years ! Nicely developed

This is good for a free overnight stay. Easy access right off hwy 2 turn north, on the west side of the lake, then down a dirt/gravel road about a mile. It's dry camping next to a boat ramp right on Banks Lake. The sites are on real dusty gravel, very unlevel with the exception of the handicapped site which is on a cement pad by restrooms. Stay is limited to 3 nights. We stayed 2 nights in our 5th wheel in early July. The wind blew so hard that it rocked our camper all night both nights. Don't know if that's normal for this area, but we got no sleep!

All alone out here at this clean public campground. 4 stars because the sites could be leveled out a bit better.
