American Inn Hotel

Budget motel just off I-29 and across the Missouri River from downtown Kansas City. Just 4 miles and a 7-minute drive from the T-Mobile Center and the Power and Light District. Rooms are very outdated and the whole place could use a remodel. However, the place was clean and the area safe enough. Fine for one night. Very affordable rates and probably as good of a place that you will find for this price.

Walking in the hotel, it smelled of cigarettes and pot mixed with urine. Everything about the place was sketchy. We got the room from Hotwire which ranked it with a crown plaza and Hilton. That’s a joke. It was clear homeless stayed here. We left the lobby carrying the smell with us. An econolodge or motel 6 would be a massive upgrade. We stayed someplace else because we could not have our children in that environment. When I spoke with the manager and she didn’t seem surprised we would leave but didn’t get our money back. Be warned.

Positive: It is very close to convenience stores, and fast food restaurants. Close to interstates also. Smoking room. Staff polite. Business chair in room, desk ok. Manly ice machine. (lots of ice) Negative: The door knob came off the first time I tried to use it. Maintenance fixed it right away. No elevator for ADA purposes. No luggage cart. People hanging around in the parking lot. (dope)

I was at this location this passed weekend and it started out great but then, Saturday night from 9pm- through the rest of the night some people tried to break into my room and the front desk man was no help at all. I was so scared and didn’t get no rest for over 24hrs. Everybody told me they was safe but in reality they not safe. They let anybody break into other peoples rooms and they turn they backs to because come to find out if the break in and grab money or whatever the front desk people get half of what was taken. I will never go back to a place like this ever again. They should be ashamed of their selves. Don’t u know about karma?? Yes, karma is real and it will get u eventually. This place was gross. The people checking you in are behind a giant thing of glass like they're at a gas station that's been robbed a few too many times. So that did not instill confidence in the location of the hotel. I went ahead and gave the location two stars because we did not personally have anything happen to us and it was close enough to where we were going. The hallways smelled so much of smoke that it was like going to a bar. I was honestly surprised I didn't see people actively smoking in the hallways. The room itself didnt smell like smoke and was cleaner than I expected it to be. We still checked it for bed bugs and found some mold. I wouldn't even write a nasty review except hotwire listed this as a 3 star hotel and I don't want anyone to get it twisted. This is far from a 3
