Amazon Motel

Not sure how this place use to be BEFORE they remodeled it but NOW I think it's really nice and "up to date" you can say with the lights turning on as soon as you walk in the door and the same when entering the kitchen and bathroom. Something so simple but really cool!! Glad to be a resident as The Amazon is now housing people who are transitioning from getting out of prison/jail or coming off the streets.... shout out to the staff from Old Pueblo for making it all happen!

I stayed here for one night the last week of February. The hotel is clean and very basic. I had to check in late and it was actually snowing in Tucson that evening so I was happy to get into my room and get unpacked and get into bed. I found the room key, which is a real key, kind of a sign of the age of the place. You just don't see that very much anymore! Anyway, my adventure in the jungle started at about 2 AM when the power went out in the room. I thought maybe it was just something I did, but then I realized that the entire room was without power and there was no one at the front desk to check with, so that was another issue. No matter! In an older area of town. Used to be quite a sketchy neighborhood, but that has been cleaned up as of late. ||The motel is older but looks like it has been updated somewhat recently with new tile in the bathroom, HD-TV (free cable including HBO and ESPN). Free WiFi (which I didn't try) and an outdoor pool that looked very clean (the pool is right next to the highway, so might be a bit noisy -- didn't go swimming as it was raining). The in-wall A/C unit worked and was fairly quiet as these types of units go (seemed newer than others I've seen in similarly priced places). The walls between the rooms (at least on the ground floor) are made of BRICK! We heard nothing from the rooms on either side (I know they were occupied), even in the morning with flushes and showers. We had a double bedroom. The room was a bit dated, but the beds were decent which was nice. We didn't see any bugs. If you wanted ice you had to get it from the office before 10 pm. So far, so good. However, I would hesitate to leave the room unattended. The last day we left and came back, and someone who worked at the motel, because they had to have had a key, had stolen our double chocolate chip muffins. There were two of them and they were gone without a trace. At this point we haven't noticed anything else missing. We never gave permission for someone to enter the room, nor does the motel have do not disturb signs. For a cheap place in a bleak neighborhood, this place was a pleasant surprise. Beds were comfy, the front desk was friendly, and everything was clean .... like, amazingly clean. Carpet looked new-ish, bedding had that fresh linen smell, towels were bright white, no lingering ancient dust in the corners left from lazy vacuuming. And the TV was set to display the correct aspect ratio, which is always nice and all too rare.
