Ala Mar Motel

Full of History and Heart! I honestly don’t understand the negative reviews! The hotel is right on the beachfront — of course, it’s by the ocean, so you might expect some sand, but we didn’t see any! The entire place was spotless. Our room had freshly mopped floors that even smelled of disinfectant — not just wiped for show — no dust anywhere, plenty of clean towels, and beautiful linens. The building dates back to 1931, but it’s in excellent condition and full of character. Staying here feels like being in a small museum filled with history and charm. Everything is done with love and attention to detail, and the staff were incredibly friendly, making us feel truly welcome. Can’t wait to come back!

Right on Carrillo in Santa Barbara a block from State Street and across the street from the beach?!! It doesn’t get any better than this, folks…Except next door at the Villa Rosa, which has an art collection that rivals museums, a pool, jacuzzi, even a Coi Pond. And complimentary breakfast & wine & horsderves; if you can get a room; The Villa Rosa has a well-established European clientele, mostly Italian. I stay at the Ala Mar because for Santa Barbara it’s affordable when I’m on business and I jog so it’s right at the beach. Anniversaries, honeymooners, weekend romance-spend a few extra bucks for the Villa Rosa. The staff is first class.

Horrible room and service. The restroom window was broken and leaking freezing air. The battery for the heater was dead. Also no soap for showering. No service phone had to go to another hotel and service desk had a personal number to call and had to call 2 times. Third time answered and took 20 minutes to get batteries and soap. Battery did not fix the heater. Room was not clean and old fixtures. The location is great but never coming back again. Do not waste your Money!!!

Location is epic. Easy access to literally everything. Cozy character that is comfortable and clean, with a deck that was made for utopia. Staff are all awesome, Melody is especially gracious and welcoming. Easy check in and incredible area, the perfect stay in SB without blowing your budget. Will come back again and again. Just book it! You’ll thank me later. 😄

Positive: Very close to the beach Negative: It appears the room above us was occupied by someone that was renovating the room and they kept us up until midnight and restarted at 5 in the morning and we did not get a good night of sleep.
