Above the Clouds Hostel

Such a wonderful Hostel! I had heard great things from other hikers and was finally able to stay there. Lucky and his staff were wonderful. The bunk beds were comfortable and the hostel was clean. We met some other hikers that were repeat customers as I will be in the future.

Being this was the first hostile that we stayed at on our Appalachian Trail thru hike heading north, we were able to contact Above the clouds hostile and spoke with the owner Lucky. We set up a pick up time and one of his shuttle drivers was there on time. Lucky gave us a thorough walk-through of the fantastic facility and we met his two employees, Bounce and Thor, they were very very friendly. Very nice place very accommodating. They serve breakfast in the morning which was very good. We ended up doing a couple of days of slack packing, which really made it easier to go over Blood Mountain and other area hills. Riding a motorcycle in the area and stumbled across this place. People are great, location is quiet and beautiful. Free breakfast too! I scored a cabin with a beautiful little view. Best part was the soft sheets. If you have been hiking, you need a night in these soft sheets.

Huge thank you to Lucky at Above the Clouds! Never had the pleasure to stay overnight but the service was exceptional and he gave me a safe place to leave my truck for a few nights while I’m on the A.T. He also gave me and my dog a ride to Woodys Gap to begin my trek and made things very smooth. Thank you!

My daughter and I stayed here to section hike the AT from Woody Gap to Unicoi Gap. We stayed in a private cabin as my dog (Jack Russell) was with us. The cabin was clean and the beds were super comfy after driving 13 hours from New Jersey. Our delicious and filling breakfast of scrambled eggs with sausage and pancakes was made by Bounce before we were dropped off by Thor at the Woody Gap Trailhead 1.5 miles away. We decided to slackpack our first day and our backs were delivered to us at Neels Gap by Thor. We left our car at the hostel and were picked up by Thor at Unicoi Gap four days later. Highly recommend this hostel as it was clean, accommodating, safe, close to the trailhead, and has wonderful caretakers!
