William Seward Inn

We visited the Inn with a group of friends for the Lake Erie Harvest Wine Weekend Nov. 11-13 and rented the carriage house. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The decor in each room added to the charm of this place! After reading some of the reviews prior to our arrival, we were not sure what to expect for our breakfast, but we were pleasantly and delciously surprised! One morning we were served a wonderful egg-bake quiche along with our choice of muffins, scones or apple strudel. Abraham, the manager asked for our input on breakfast for the following morning and we were treated to baked french toast with blueberry syrup, which was absolutely fabulous! Beautiful, historic B&B on a peaceful setting. Our room was comfortable (the bed was nothing short of luxurious) and breakfast was good. If you're coming to the area for a wine tour, I highly recommend this place.

This B&B is working its way back to top quality. A lovely building with history of two centuries makes it comfortable and interesting. Shower plumbing in several rooms needed to be fixed or cleaned and it appeared this was being attended to. We were moved to another room for this reason. The breakfast offering was delicious each day, but there is only one offering. Our host accomodated our group to provide us with extra glasses and ice and to hunt for a lost item. Beds had good mattresses. For the price, we would have expected plumbing to be working better. We stayed there a year ago and saw some improvements this year; hope they keep improving.

First let me say that the young man who greeted us upon arrival was very helpful and kind. We loved the pet policy that permitted you to leave the pet in the room while you were out and about. Most places required you take your pet with you even if you crate your pet. Upon arrival, they were unaware that we were bringing our dog. We explained this was communicated when we called the inn to reserve the room. We did get the room we reserved which also turned out to be the room for patrons wishing to bring pets. This B&B was overpriced for what we received. We ascended stairs which had worn and stained carpeting. We understand this is an historic inn, but the overall decor was lacking. The website photos did not accurately portray the room size. We stayed in the William Seward Room. B

We frequent Chautauqua Institution during the summer, but live just far away enough to require accommodations for one or more nights per visit. In the past, we've tried several different options (ranging from an on-grounds guest house to two local hotels), but I've had my eye on the William Seward for quite some time and decided to book a room there this July.||||The Inn's website portrays it as a classy bed and breakfast with lovely old-fashioned rooms. However, the first thing I noticed when we arrived was a "for sale" sign and the second thing was that there were no other guests around--most definitely NOT the norm for any desirable property in the middle of the Chautauqua season! Although this seemed odd, I tried not to let it concern me because it was still fairly early (around 6:30 P
