When Alaska F&G, in all their wisdom, closed the Kenai to fishing the day before I arrived, the folks at HiLo were able to scramble and rebook 3 different days of fishing. Although the catching was slow the experience was AWESOME when it could have been a total loss. Thanks to Melissa at the Lodge and Scott my guide for a great job. Instead of just fishing the Kenai for Kings, I fished the Kasilof for Kings, the Russian for Sockeye (this is the famous "COMBAT" fishing), and the ocean for Halibut (I brought back 30 lbs of filets). The Lodge accomodations were great ( 2 bedroom condo like unit) with nice views.
What a trip! We went clamming. We went sightseeing. We caught red salmon, king salmon and halibut! The rooms were great - full kitchen so we could cook our own meals. The guides were awesome. Maybe we were lucky but it seemed to me we were the only ones who caught king salmon on our trip b/c lots of people we talked to didn't get a bite! The lodge staff were amazing - available 24/7 to help us with forgotten fishing licenses or hair driers! I can definitely recommend Hi-Lo!
Went up to do some fishing and sight seeing. Hi-Lo came highly recommended so we booked and could not be more thrilled. The rooms at the lodge were immaculate, the service and attention to detail second to none. We went fishing with our guide Stanley. No one was catching fish that day, neither did we, but the experience was awesome and company (our guide Stanley) was wonderful. He was very knowledgeable about the various spots to catch fish. It is not his fault they weren't biting that day. ||||Melissa is the most efficient, hardworking manager I have ever seen. She runs a tight ship and the pride in her job is evident. She recommended various trips, the one to Homer (the Time Bandit is there!) and Soldovia being a real highlight to our trip. We travel extensively and have never s
Made very last minute plans to head to Kenai fishing. |Great guide Mike recommended the one night stay ay Hi-lo. Melissa could not have been more helpful. Pricing this late in the season was really good for the lodging. Lodge was much nicer than we were expecting. Ladies stayed home and guys went fishing. Not the Hilton, but nicely appointed. Wish we could have stayed longer. Next time.
I've been to Alaska many times over the years for fishing and this is the best value I've experienced. The hostess is very nice and helpful and the rooms are very comfortable and clean. Definitely a place I will stay at again. The only drawback is you cannot fish from shore and have the travel a bit for sockeye.
