The Volare, an Ascend Collection Hotel

Our group stayed at the Volare for a work trip and had a wonderful experience. We had our meetings in the Pier room and it was great for what we needed. The staff were wonderful and very helpful we especially appreciated how Solara and Daniel worked very hard to make our check in and stay especially positive and easy. The hotel was very clean and the rooms were nicely furnished. I had an ocean view room and really enjoyed the view of the ocean. Others in our group stayed in non ocean view rooms and even with the close proximity to the freeway their rooms were not too loud. Parking is very nice with the underground parking that is available and we were within walking distance of many amazing restaurants and the beach. We look forward to staying at the Volare again in the future.

Good and Bad. The hotel was nice, but on the older side. I slept great, but if you are a light sleeper, keep in mind you are right on the freeway entrance and the cars and construction are pretty loud. My room had a nice view of the ocean. Love that it had a microwave and fridge. Overall though, I am happy with my stay. Room was nice and AC worked good. I think I will choose a more modern hotel next time, away from the freeway. Unless it was considerably cheaper than others I would stay here again, but not for the going rate of other more modern resorts.

This has become our go-to place in San Clemente. We prefer places that aren't the same homogenized, boring experiences you get from chains. Choice Hotels Ascend Collection seems to work well in that they allow places like this to keep their charm in spite of being a part of a chain. The view of the ocean over the town of San Clemente is just wonderful for getting a slow start on your day. The shopping and dining of Del Mar starts just a few blocks away, and the people here are as nice and approachable as Southerners. Parking is safe and plentiful, and there are EV chargers in the garage. Heated pool and hot tub are a nice amenity, as well. Rooms are big and bathrooms are luxurious without being pretentious. Rates are surprisingly affordable and you really get a lot for the money.

So my girlfriend and I have been coming to this hotel over the past year. Nice rooms, comfy beds, overall great hotel. What is annoying and insanely frustrating is the 4 pm check in. Only once have I been able to check in early. I had a wedding to go to at 3 and my check in was at 4. I asked if I can check in early (I didn’t mind paying extra) because I didn’t want to have to put a tuxedo on in the car. The said no there is no exceptions. Keep in mind that it was a rainy day on a Monday with zero people there. I know for a fact there were rooms available already but they decided to not be understanding.
