The Highlands at Sugar

Don't let the pictures fool you here. They units look nice, but that is where the good stops. Deep in the fine print, you find that they do not have air conditioning, but what they do not tell you is that the heating sources are ancient baseboard heaters that have not been maintained or repaired in quite some time. They units are poorly insulated & are extremely drafty. The heat is not capable of keeping up when external temps reach the single digits. Even with the heat turned all the way up, the internal unit temp dropped to 50 degrees. After speaking to other tenants, this is a common issue. The buildings had been damaged by a hurricane well over a year ago, therefore, the fireplaces are not functional which they also don't tell you until you check in. The appliances are ancient & rusty

Checked in Sunday older but not ok. It was expected. However, something ate my husband up in bed. Dr said mites. Called manager every sweet but sent a guy with a flashlight that just couldn’t find anything. He kept saying looking but see no, bed bugs. Sir, I have told you 4 times we were told mite bites. I’m trusting a Dr order over you. Will see what happens checked out 2 nights early. Rooms definitely need attention and beds definitely need to be switched out. Beautiful views though. Posting pics of things I found .

Great place with friendly staff. We have stayed several times and have had a great experience every time. The condo we stayed in this time did need some repairs that were pretty evident in my opinion, such as flooring issues and some of the interior doors being broken. For a higher end accomodation, I would also recommend replacing the 22" tube tv in the bedroom with at least a flat screen. Even with the recommendations, we will be staying here again.

It’s right off the highway and it is a little dumpy but it’s a great place if you want to sit down and unwind. Some things need to be updated but you know it’s a place to stay and I’m grateful. The pool is actually very nice though it does get very foggy in the room. The sauna is nice looks updated. The game room is very nice with old retro games and what I love most of all is the staff. The staff were so nice. Over all I would give it a 4/5 stars.
