Superior Ridge Resort Motel

This place was really nice. No desk staff, so they send you the code for the door to your room. The room was huge and the bathroom was nice. Beds were comfortable and had substantial blankets unlike the cheap motels that sometimes only have one super thin blanket. Our unit had a small stream behind it that made the most relaxing and wonderful noises so we kept the window cracked all night since it was cool anyway. Would definitely stay again.

We have stayed at Superior Ridge many times since it was first built nearly 30 years ago. They are now under new ownership (Eagle Mountain in Lutsen answers the phone), and the new ownership is wholly disappointing. Over the course of making and confirming our reservation, we made 3 calls to them, and each time the person we talked to was 'new and didn't know much about the property, but someone could call us back the next day.' We did not receive a call back in ANY of those cases. |Upon arrival it was evident that the grounds aren't being kept up. There is a dead tree laying on the ground that hasn't been cleaned up, and the mowing/trimming aren't being kept up. The mattresses are broken down; the ceiling fans have heavy dust; the couch is also broken down and hard to get out of.|We

I'll say up front that the less than stellar check-in process we had was partly my fault. I didn't check to see that I wouldn't be contacted by them with our room info and how to get into the room until we got there at a guaranteed time of 4:30 PM. We got there a little early after driving 8 hours in hopes of maybe getting an early check-in. Of course, we didn't see anywhere or anyone to help us. Eventually, I found a gentleman who was on loan to the location due to a staff shortage. He helped me by making several phone calls. We eventually connected with someone who said we were early and the room wasn't ready yet. We would receive a text with all of the necessary info when the room was ready. A quick three night trip up to the North Shore. I found this place to be very comfortable. It’s fairly no frills and it suit my needs just fine. In times of Covid I am avoiding people, so the microwave and fridge in the room came in quite handy for me to make my own meals with the food I brought from home. Theview from my window was wonderful and provided a great view of the sunrises out on Lake superior. The bed was fairly comfortable, the room is clean as a whistle, and the host were very friendly and helpful. The TV reception was a little bit lacking but that’s OK, as that’s not the reason I came up here. It’s fairly close to temperance River State Park, the superior hiking trail, and many of the sites on Minnesota’s North Shore. I will gladly stay here again.

Very quiet during the week. Sauna was nice. Our room had a jacuzzi tub and fireplace which were both nice perks. There is also a shower but water pressure was awful. The fireplace is gas and the blower is very loud and would wake me every time it came on. We left it off the second night. Many hiking trails nearby. Our room was in building D and had a fantastic view of the lake on one side and the woods on the other where I saw two deer the morning we checked out. My husband also saw a snake outside! Owners are very friendly and ready to help if you have any questions! There is also a fire pit and grills to use but we did not use either. Would definitely recommend this place if you are coming to the North Shore.
