Sunrise Sites 7,8,9

We visited the day after a storm, and puddles made our campsite muddy and the food box inaccessible. Sites 7, 8, and 9 have no shade—8 and 9 face the cliff, while 7 is set slightly inward. The view is nice, with Richmond visible; for SF views, you’ll need to walk toward the other side or Mt. Livermore. The hike in is manageable (about 40 minutes). Restrooms are pit toilets and not very clean, so plan accordingly. There is no running water, they place jugs one for each site.

Well, these sites aren’t the best on island, but definitely top 10 on the island. We stayed in Sight eight. No shade. It was very windy around 5 PM. Wind coming from the island side not from the bay. There was a water Spicket on our picnic table and a 5 gallon water jug. There’s an animal box on the picnic table end used to keep the raccoons out. The pit toilet was clean and close by. You could get to this campsite all the way from the ferry landing with a wagon if you take the perimeter road. We hiked across the island to get to the site and it was a lot of uphill. Having a bike on island would be great, but they do rent them. It’s 5 miles all the way around the perimeter road .
