Stargaze Inn

What a gem in the Oregon Outback! We stayed three nights in September and truly enjoyed the cabin and the quietude of the desert. The Stargaze Inn is well-designed and equipped, has great views of the desert landscape, and the barrel sauna is a special bonus. The cabin is clean, comfortable, and secure. We didn't want to leave and definitely will go back.

Such a lovely experience! Our friend group visited for the wildlife refuge and the dark sky sanctuary. We were so pleased with the location and quality of the lodging. It’s just a short drive (2 miles?) from the entrance to the wildlife refuge. From the original reservation, Randy’s communication was so responsive. He provided details to help our visit go smoothly and was very prompt in responding to questions. The property is well-equipped and we had everything we needed to prepare meals. They even have a Keurig and coffee pods, a basket of snacks and hot chocolate. The grill on the deck is easy to use and in the evening shade. Stargaze Inn at Summer Lake sits at one of the least light-polluted areas in the continental US. The point of our stay was to view the Milky Way. We were not disappointed! Dark skies are truly dark here - you can see the structures of the Milky Way by your naked eye. There could be charm in sleeping in a tent at some primitive campground for this purpose, but Stargaze Inn provides luxury accommodations with a fully equipped kitchen and a large deck that makes star gazing very comfortable. All you need to bring is a tripod for your iPhone/camera for longer exposures and fantastic photos.

The Stargaze Inn in Summerlake, Oregon, is a fantastic getaway if you’re looking to escape into nature and enjoy some truly dark night skies. It’s also super convenient for bird watching at Summer Lake Wildlife Refuge. We went three times during our stay and still didn’t see enough. I was so excited to find some lifers! We also took a wild adventure out to Dust Devil Mining to hunt for sunstones and hiked up Winter Ridge—both highly recommended if you’re in the area. But honestly, the best part of our trip was simply having coffee on the deck, feeling the sun, and doing absolutely nothing. The house itself was comfortable and well-equipped, and he quality of the house and furnishings was well above most vacation rentals we’ve stayed in. It feels like it was built to be a long-term home.

Beautiful house with open concept. Stocked up with all the amenities you might need. Comfortable wrap around deck with a propane grill and plenty of outdoor seating. Great views, and a sauna. Very reasonably priced for what you get. Definitely worth a second trip.
