LOCKED OUT AND SLEEPING IN THE CAR We used to go regularly to SL when it was owned by the legendary Bernie McIsaac, who was there until the early 1990s. Bathrooms and showers have been upgraded since then so that's a big plus. Alas, other things have declined. The landscape is greatly scarred because of the Cameron fire. The cabins and service have also seen better days. Wi-Fi was spotty in my cabin (Cabin #1) But I am most unhappy because I had to sleep in my car on the first night (no lie, very cold) because the lock on my cabin (a spring loaded dead bolt which I thought I had figured out at various points in the trip) malfunctioned. Apparently this is a well-known problem: I found comments on this site complaining about the locks from two years ago and the owners promised to attend to

If you want to unplug from society for a bit, this is your place! No internet, no cell service, no television, just simple rustic cabins placed in an idyllic natural atmosphere. Our hosts, Tessa and Tyler Smith were amazing! Mr. Smith is an avid fly fisherman. He set us up in a fishing spot that will rest in my memory until my dying day. We caught our legal limit within 45 minutes, all the while watching a giant Moose work his way through the water. We returned to camp for an amazing fish fry, a bonfire, and great stories shared by other travelers. Mrs. Smith was so sweet and helpful. She made our stay easy and enjoyable. I almost don't want to leave a review because we want to keep this place on the Cache la Poudre River to ourselves. But with eleven cabins, RV Pads and Tent Camping spots

The only thing I’ll give a five star is the location of the place. I love being deep in the mountains. But on the other hand, the owners are never around. You can never find help when you need it. Our cabin was very dirty. The bathrooms were very dirty. The store is never open. I miss when Bob and Sherry Conley ran the place.

Was tired of looking for camp sights. Pulled in and they had a single cabin. Very friendly and quiet, cabins are older but very nice and clean with wood burning stove and sink and fridge. Glad I stopped.

Sportsman's Lodge has always been the perfect balance of rustic and modern for me. I am as pleased with the new owners, (of 4 years), as I was with the previous owners, in their commitment to make sure their guests' needs are met. I'll always consider Sportsman's home away from home.
