Smugglers’ Roost just keeps getting better! Gorgeous mountain views, total peace and quiet, and now there are high-powered telescopes for epic stargazing. The new wood-fired pizzas are amazing, and Sunday morning coffee is the perfect way to start the day with friendly neighbors. If you’re into stars, solitude, and a strong sense of community, this place is a hidden gem. Highly recommend

Great place to live. The best kind of people. We have angels living among us. We are a community that cares about each other. Beautiful sunsets and sunrises. Great views. Starry, starry nights. Peaceful and quiet. I have the best neighbors and value the relationships we have built with each other. I feel safe here and enjoy being far away from the hustle and bustle of the day to day world. We are not the most beautiful of parks, but management has a game plan for continued improvements and I look forward to watching those materialize…

Hi, I'm Michael Gabriel, I moved to Smugglers Roost on April 20th of 2024, after the passing of my wife of 37 years, looking for a place to create a new life. Why Animas New Mexico? I asked myself that many times the first few months, having lived in Northern states my entire life, I was totally out of my element on all levels, in this new piece of the World. I got to know Gene, (manager of the Roost), finding him to be an interesting conversationalist with an exciting passion for Astronomy, that he shares with anyone showing interest. Gene is one of the nicest guys around! He's also very knowledgeable about the area, as well as the fabulous night skies and what stars and planets can be seen from the openess of Smugglers Roost. We were there to stay a full week, and extended to 3 days more. The laundry units are clean and have a bunch of books and sundriespeople sometimes leave for other visitors. Everyone we met was super nice, and they even had a free lunch on Saturday. The cost was especially good, and the scenery was incredible. Make sure to visit nearby Portal, where they have a wonderful little Cafe and museum. The mountains there are phenomenally gorgeous! We will definitely be back!

This is THE place to be if you want serenity, a community, amazing scenery, incredible starry nights and all of your needs taken care of! My husband and I became Lease Holders in March 2024 and couldn’t be happier. There’s so much to do but also the most relaxing environment! The bird / fish pond is my favorite place; there are on-site roasted coffee gatherings, yoga, kiln-fired pottery classes, star-gazing with world class telescopes, nearby hiking, biking, site seeing….. So much! There are also plenty of jobs in the surrounding areas and all the food and shopping amenities that you’d need!
