It's 5 miles from soda lake road camp is basic with gazebo tables and fire ring. It's is free to stay there 14 day limit. There is water faucets but the water is undrinkable high in nitrates. Very nice views Very quiet Very green with flowers for Jan 2026
Amazing campground and experience. Google maps will offer multiple routes, but if your coming from the north I recommend setting it to the Carrizo Plains Monumment, taking Soda Lake Rd and following the local signage guides and local maps so you don't take other surprise routes (unless you intend on it, though they may be off-road). Google maps does mention unpaved roads on some routes, but when I followed it, the roads were actually paved. The path to the campground itself was off-road, but not bad. AWD vehicles can easily make the journey (granted I went during winter on a Sunny and dry day). If you drive a vehicle with low ground clearance just be weary of uneven paths, deep ruts and large rocks to avoid any possible scrapes. The campground itself had designated camping spots, fire pit
Basic campsites with a table and fire rings. Two pit toilet bathrooms that were very clean. Green and pretty in April with a view of the plains below. The wildflowers were in bloom so the sites were all taken on a Wednesday night. People were camping in spots that weren’t sites and everyone was getting along. There was potable water and the sites are free. Take the 5 mile, dirt, dead end road to get there. There are creatures out at night so lock up your food and trash.
No res, no fee campground with shade structures, tables, and fire rings... Lots of flat space tho pretty exposed.
13 miles to the campground is non pavement. It’s all gravel. I have RV Van I could not run more than 5 mph the unevenly gravel made it was to difficult to drive. If you have off road van it will be great. I turn around didn’t make it. I did not want my van to run to the extreme drive.
