We stayed at Ruttger’s Bay Lake Resort in late February/early March and had such a great experience. We chose it because it’s a little closer for us than the Brainerd area, and the prices were honestly really reasonable for a winter getaway. We stayed once in the summer and had such a blast in one of the small cabins by the lake. This time, we stayed in a room with our family of four, which worked out great for a one night stay! Winter there is quiet and peaceful, which we loved. There’s easy lake access, so we were able to get out and do a little fishing. We didn’t catch anything this time, but we still had a blast being out on the lake together. Ruby's restaurant was a huge highlight. Really quality food. The short rib French onion soup was incredible, and the Rachel sandwich was amazi
For the most part we would give Ruttgers a high rating. The negative was the not so personable staff. Upon check in the person at the front desk barely smiled, ran through the details of our reservation and didn't give us any additional information or tips. Huge kudos to Katie at the front desk, who I wish would've checked us in because she was super friendly and personable. Our room was spacious, with ample space to move around in. We used the indoor pool and hot tub and both were very clean and well kept. The yard games were fun but when we went to use them our second night there, the person running them had already pulled them even though it was only 6:30 pm (the schedule said they would be out until 8 pm) While the onsite restaurant is convenient and food good, our server was
Positive: The staff are friendly and bingo night was fun. Outside pool was fairly warm even though the weather wasn’t. Negative: Room was weird. Tiny bathroom and giant stain on carpet and toilet wouldn’t flush.
We have had an amazing trip here. We came in off season so I cannot speak to peak summer time. We felt like we had the resort to ourselves. Our cabin was nice, clean and well stocked with dishes. We enjoyed lots of time in the pool, game area, and doing the scheduled crafts. The staff was so kind to us, and made our trip so much more enjoyable with all the small talk. We ate at the restaurant and loved it, and spent at minimum an hour every day playing games in front of the gorgeous fireplace in the restaurant lobby. The old photos of the resort and family that ran the place really add to the historic charm. We can’t wait to plan another trip here!
Nice big rooms, a little dated, and on the lower end. Location is great. I was there for a wedding. The reception room was nice and the food was great, the halls were a bit dank and we had to walk through the pool area to get to the reception. Overall as expected, with the food quality being an upside.
