I give one star because the accommodations, food and support staff were very good. Also, this review is not reflective of our hunt guide, Rick, who was professional, very helpful and a pleasure to hunt with. My issue is with the owner, Dan Schwartz, who was aloof and acted as if it were a burden to answer questions, and the overall hunt experience. Dan misrepresented his access and the numbers, to a year round ‘private landlocked’ herd of Elk, that could be hunted on BLM land. It turns out to be less than around 100 total animals, not nearly sufficient for the number of hunters and other outfitters in the area. Anyone who has hunted the Meeker area on BLM land is aware that if the snow is not on the ground, then the only hunting reasonably available are the year round herds. The thou

REVIEW – Ripple Creek Our group had a very disappointing and unsafe experience with Ripple Creek. The lodge and accommodations were completely misrepresented online — the “beautiful lodge” shown in photos was actually a small, rundown building. The hunt itself was poorly organized, with hunters placed dangerously close together and vehicles in unsafe condition (bad brakes, flat tires, no tow straps). We were promised access to 2,500+ acres with 45,000 adjoining acres, but our group was confined to over-pressured, low-elevation public areas with virtually no elk activity. Meanwhile, another group received exclusive access to the prime high-elevation area and harvested multiple bulls. When we respectfully raised our concerns, the owner became defensive, even admitting we had been misled and

We held our family reunion at Ripple Creek. The cabins were nice, clean, and we love that they have showers and toilets in the cabin. The food was delicious. We had breakfast one day and dinner that night. They make homemade onion rings outside. That are the best I've ever had. During the day we took a horseback ride up to Big fish Lake. It was a wonderful ride through wildflowers with several small stream crossings. I would guess we gained about 500 ft elevation. The horses were very good and sound and you can tell that they are very well cared for. |My only suggestion would be a screen for the front door at Brook cabin for airflow, and screens on the windows. We were there over the 4th of July and it was still very cool at night which was great. |The owners of the lodge do an amazing amo

This is a good, true hunting experience, the staff, especially the guides were terrific! We were there for 5 day rifle elk hunt, unfortunately no one saw any elk but that is hunting, no one can control the elk movement. It felt like we were in the right areas looking for them and we were very remote on the mountain. The food was good, hearty mountain meals. Every day you go out before sunrise and return after sunset...hunting and riding for 12-14 hours. The horse rides are not for the faint of heart, it is up and down hill, very steep and in the dark...but that's what you sign up for to hunt in such a remote mountain area. Bring a red light head lamp for night riding, practice some riding prior. The accommodations / rustic cabins were nicer than I expected and you are so tired from the lon

Our stay at the Ripple Creek Lodge was a terrible experience. Cutthroat Cabin has mice and was the primary reason we quit our vacation early. There was mice excrement in the living, eating, and sleeping quarters. Other reasons for our complete dissatisfaction include the following: When we booked our stay, months before our vacation, we requested a half-day guided fishing trip. Dan, the owner, said he would take care of that when we arrived. Upon arrival, no guides were available. This was a big reason we chose Ripple Creek Lodge. At first arrival we had to request staff to fix the refrigerator and stove so they would function. They were not prepared for our visit, there is no formal check-in. Staff laughed when we complained about the mice and did not respond to our complaint.
