Red Roof PLUS+ Huntsville

We stayed here for two nights during a college visit because it was one of the cheapest options we could find that was rated above two stars. Unfortunately, the experience didn’t quite match the price we paid (about $300 for two nights). The room itself was just okay at first, but there were several issues. The AC stopped working on the second night, and the hair dryer in the room was cracked and looked pretty beat up. We also saw a few roaches in the bathroom, which was definitely unpleasant. Another big issue was the strong smell of marijuana in the hallway. Because there was about an inch gap under the door, the smell constantly drifted into the room and was very noticeable the entire time. Positive: Room was large in size. Pool was clean Negative: Some of the smoking rooms near us we could smell. Loud and walls were thin. No elevator.

I usually have all good things to say about this location. I always get a 1st floor non-smoking room with a king bed. For some reason my king bed room was swapped with someone else's 2 bed room after my reservation was approved and paid for. I never received a phone call someone just did it. Although I appreciate them finding me a king bed room it was on the 2nd floor and I hate going up and down the stairs. This won't keep me from staying here in the future unless it happens again as everything else is great.

For a low rate hotel, they did OK. Everything was surface clean. Toilet handle was loose. Walked thru the front a couple times and no one was there, probably in a back office. Place next door seemed rather sketchy, Dairy Queen on the other side made dinner easy. Appears to have been painted recently. Nice place to stay if you just want to crash for a night or two.

Title: Misleading Photos — Budget Stay With Some Surprises Conveniently located right off the I-45 feeder road, this hotel is surprisingly quiet despite its surroundings. The parking lot sits between an abandoned gas station and a Dairy Queen that’s currently closed for remodel, and it backs up to a privacy fence for Super 8 with better parking access. Pets are allowed, which is nice, but if you have allergies, be prepared — my sinuses definitely noticed. Hotels.com rated this property an 8 (“very good”), but that feels overly generous. It definitely has more of a 2.5-star atmosphere. I chose it mainly because other nearby options had reviews mentioning bed bugs, roaches or safety issues, and this one was about $50 cheaper than the well lit Comfort Inn up the road with the same rating.
