Rampart Range

Amazing National Forest with designated dispersed camping area. Vault toilets are clean, the views are amazing, abundant wildlife, devils head fire look out hike, picnic areas, hundreds of miles for dirt bikes and quads and a short distance to major stores and shopping in Castle Rock.

Great place to spend your day off... so much to do, of course! You get a whole forest to go play in! Go hike around with the doggos... ride your bike, atv or dirt bike... have a picnic... climb a tree 😁amazing views!!! Big plus that the temperature up there is so much cooler than when you are in the city or town... I enjoyed every minute! Colorado is a great state! They also have plenty of restrooms around, besides peeing on a tree 😆

We camped at Rampart Range Campsite 63 and had a very frightening encounter with a mountain lion. The animal approached our site multiple times throughout the night—even coming close enough to sniff around our tents. We kept a large fire, made loud noises, and shined lights, but the mountain lion kept returning. We also noticed deer bones near the campsite before the incident, which may explain why it was in the area. While the campground itself is beautiful, this experience was extremely unsettling and dangerous. I believe campers should be better warned about the presence of predators here, and stronger safety measures or advisories should be in place. Thankfully no one was harmed, but it could have ended very differently. Please be cautious if you plan to stay at this site.

if you want to get the experience of camping in the parking lot of a dirt bike rally, camp in space #9. The dirt trail was literally, LITERALLY, 2 FT behind the most level area for a tent. From 7:45 am to way past 10 pm... constant dirt bike, atv activity. My ears were ringing when it finally stopped at 11pm. NO MENTION THAT THE TRAIL WENT RIGHT BEHIND THE CAMPSITE. ANYWHERE ON RECREATION.GOV WEBSITE.
