Went after reservation season ended. All campers were respectful of the wilderness experience. No generator noise or loud music, just people enjoying time in the beauty and solitude of the Queets River Valley. The solitude is enhanced by the long wilderness drive to access the campground.
Beautiful, secluded campground, a bit tricky to find, but worth the effort. The Google Maps GPS ended up taking us the wrong way and so we had to do a bit of navigating to get to the campground. I recommend using Gaia to navigate as it seemed to be the most accurate. The National Park Service website has a map on the page for Queets Campground that shows the campground as inaccessible coming from the Lower Queets River Road, but that turned out to be inaccurate. We arrived around 9pm on a Friday night and only 4 spots were taken. This was surprising given that it was a holiday weekend in June. The campground is beautiful, especially the 6-7 sites by the river. Bathroom was stocked with TP and hand sanitizer and the campground stayed quiet the whole weekend. We definitely recommend explorin
This gorgeous campground was peaceful and serene - until the weekend hit. Once it filled up, we were ready to go! At that point, 25+ people were sharing one pit toilet. Go during the week & enjoy the quiet, the clean river, and the star gazing.
This site seems to attract some unsavory types and is out in the middle of nowhere with no water, electricity or bathrooms...well, there is a bathroom but you will wish it wasnt there; ha! I feel thankful I even found the site- roads aren't marked and there are misleading signs posted deliberately to deter non-locals. Lots of surrounding forests that are being illegally harvested...overall just didnt feel very safe. If you're not excellent with directions or have the latest tech and all the gear to make up for the lack of ammenitities and access, I wouldn't recommend it. Visitors should be if advanced or expert level campers who arent afraid of being without rangers or lookout people/officials for miles and miles. I think I'll stick to more user friendly sites for now, though.
Worried about my car's suspension the last few miles of the drive. It rained, within a relatively short time my camp site became a swamp, the single toilet was surrounded by a lake. Wouldn't recommend.
