The Potholes Recreation Site is not for everyone. It's rustic. It's not particularly child friendly. Pit toilets. Camp for free - with a 14-night limit. Campfire inside fire rings. Bring your own firewood. Gathering firewood is prohibited. Bring your own water. Due to terrain, children should be closely supervised. Can bring your dog. Discharging firearms is prohibited - no practice shooting. If you are an adult and looking for an out of the way place to camp and play in a river, this is a great place -- especially considering that it is federal land and is clothing-optional. Hiking. Camping. Picnicking. Swimming. Photography. Stargazing. Rock Hounding. Exploring.
Amazing place but you have to be careful, the water can be very dangerous, especially in the spring run off. Great place to have a picnic, go hiking, or just enjoy the canyon views.
Beautiful remote location. Wouldn't recommend swimming based on the death list on the signboard though.
I can’t wait to camp at this location. 9 miles past the boat launch. Beautiful canyon, waterfalls, plant life, etc.
Always a great place to visit!!!! You are able to take this road all the way to Nucla and Naturita. You can camp here and hike
