Porter Lake Campground

Porter Lake Campground was easy to find with good access from the east or west (east access road is a short, well maintained dirt road that leads to the old concrete bridge—west access road is quality blacktop). AT&T cell service was very poor. I found several semi-permanent encampments when I arrived. They were well maintained and their trash was well curated, but these "campers" often feel differently about others who arrive to use "their" space. Some are friendlier than others and some are a bit…too friendly. I was travelling solo, so I was a bit uncomfortable. I slept with one eye open until about 01:00 when one of the semi-permanent residents started loudly discussing (then arguing) philosophy with himself until about 03:30. Porter Lake Campground in Apalachicola National Forest is right off the side of Forest Road FH13. Free no fee, inclined road down into a dispersed area with no clear marked sites, 1 vault toilet, water tap and a few previous fire spots. Swampy water area under a bridge with a small boat or kayak ramp. Att cell service was good. We stayed overnight in December waiting on a site at Camel Lake. 1 tenter and a pop-up camper was there. Imagine the mosquitos are bad in season.

Restrooms and fire pits. First come first serve free camping. Saw lightning bugs here at night. Beware of bugs and gators

A very good camp to spend the night when hiking the Florida Trail. Water, compost toilets and quiet.

It's a campsite. A little crude, next to the road. There were six loud dogs so I kept going.
