Okay kids, let's chat about camping. Paria Canyon is great. It is one of the most scenic and interesting canyons I have ever been to, and I've been to more than a couple canyons. Let's talk about what makes this canyon so great. Firstly, it is narrow. Narrowness in a canyon puts the traveler in a state of intense focus. As you walk through this desert hallway, the cliffs on either side of you are only wide enough for a few people to walk side by side together, but the slimness of the canyon ensures that getting lost is an impossibility. The walls of the canyon rise up far above on either side blocking out distractions. It is the type of place that a Zen master like Dogen Zenji would have chosen to lead a sesshin.
