If you are going to access the higher altitudes of the eastern Sierras - you will either do Whitney Portal or Onion Valley. Great tent camping during the right times of year. However, the real gem is the ability to go over the top through Kearsarge Pass at almost 12,000 feet. Lakes everywhere and access to the PCT and JMT. Make a left and it's off to Whitney; make a right and it's Rae Lakes to Kings Canyon backcountry, and finally Yosemite. Go Now!

Did this as a warmup hike before hiking Mount Whitney. This is a great place to camp as well. I highly recommend this place especially with friends. The weather was perfect and the views are amazing. Definitely bring a GoPro camera if you have one

Great location to hike. Small campground, small sites in a great location. Bring things to level you bed because many of the sites are slanted. No water. Pack station may have hot showers, Lone Pine has them at the hostel. Will be back!

Nice campground with picnic tables and firepits nestled in the valley between two waterfalls. Bring cash $31 per night $5 bundles of firewood are available at the entrance (atm in town is 15 miles back down the hill) bear canister is on each site for food storage

I had the sense to camp at Upper Gray where it was 20 degrees warmer but this campground is at high elevation in an amazing place.
