Camping at the Joshua Tree BLM North area on the Coyote Lake Bed was a great experience if you enjoy wide-open desert and true dispersed camping. There’s plenty of room to spread out, the views go on forever, and the sunsets and night skies are incredible. It’s quiet, peaceful, and perfect for relaxing away from crowded campgrounds. If you’re driving in, the easiest way we found was to take Sunfair Road and then Broadway to get into the lake bed area. The roads are manageable in good weather, but like most desert spots, it’s best to take it slow and watch for soft sand in places. This is dry camping, so come prepared and pack out what you bring in, but if you like boondocking and having space all around you, this is a fantastic spot. Do pay attention to the windy season! It can be very

Will absolutely return. This is a desolate looking area, but is gorgeous and even on weekends is not all that busy. One caveat: it has the absolute worst road ever to get in. Very hard on class As. Like, 5 mile an hour forward motion, lest you lose vital parts. But once past it, there is a dry lake bed and the shores of it, and the sense of separation is immense.

I had a lovely time car camping even though I was caught in 70 mph winds. Lots of space for dispersed camping. People ride dirt bikes and shoot guns and light fireworks, but it is what it is. CAREFUL! NAILS!!! I think someone had beef with a group of old campers and as I was taking a walk in the morning I found a massive area completely and intentionally littered with old screws and nails. This was probably someone who was mad at whoever was there before, but if drove even 15 seconds more, I would have had a disgusting tire shop bill. This is dangerous for cars, humans, all animals and the environment. Who ever did this is scum, but thankfully there are groups of local people who clean up the lake bed on occasion. STOP MAKING THEIR JOB HARDER! If you go there, I'd recommend parking along

It’s flat and free. That’s about as much as you can ask for. There’s plenty of space for a ton of rigs. It’s wide open and exposed - so wind and sun are to be considered. There are no toilets, portos, tree and barely any bushes. There’s some trash, noise (Uta/atv/Baja) and shooting that happens out there. It is what it is. ✌🏼

Boondockers paradise in the desert, just 15 minutes away from Joshua Tree National Park entrance. Starry sky at night was wonderful, and so was the glow from the nearby towns. Please be mindful of other travelers, pack your trash, and respect the land, so we can all enjoy this for years to come! It was a spacious and quiet free public land, as long as you keep your distance from the “party” rigs. Pulled in a little bit later on a Saturday night, and found a spot easy. Roads are doable in any vehicle when it’s dry outside. Not sure about during rainy days - probably turns into a mud pit. My 2x4 144 wheelbase sprinter van made it just fine, but go slow and watch out for washboard and other vehicles. Also be mindful of occasional dogs that run around without leash. It’s a safe space for
