Navajo State Park

In years past I have stayed at and enjoyed both the cottonwood campground beside the river and the campground on top beside the lake. I especially enjoyed the showers on top and river proximity at cottonwood. On my last visit in late October 2024 I found that all sites within cottonwood are now available by reservation only (and the majority were empty when I drove through late and in need of a spot for sleeping). It appears that this reservation situation is now policy, possibly for all NM state parks. Makes it imposible to arrive and get a spot without reservation. I can understand that this might be ok from a management perspective, but not everyone who camps likes such a rigid requirement.
