Fisheads San Juan River Lodge

Had a great time with the fishheads crew. I did two half day guided trips with Charlie and Marcus and could not recommend the two of them more! Got on some big fish, caught a bunch each trip anf had a great time talking to both of them during the trips. Book them and you wont be sorry. I am going back in April.

This was a wonderful experience! The staff are like family. The food each night was five * delicious. The room were clean and roomy. The fishing guides were so nice and knowledgeable. We caught some huge rainbow and browns. We’ve already booked for next year!

Great people, great food and great fishing. Stayed 1 night and fished the following day guided float with Bubba. Budda is all you can want and more. Not just from a fish catching perspective but a cool dude. Average fish was 18 inches with some standouts to 24. Started the day nymphing texas hole with non stop action on big fish. There are some really big fish in that hole. Lost a couple on pulled hooks that were on for a few minutes that were plus 24 inchers. Switched to streamer fishing and dry fly sight casting as there were some risers even in december. Having bubba guiding made all the difference. We ventured across a couple of anglers who were having a rough go at it, but we had probably put 10 fish in the net in the first hour. The food was excellent, highly recommend the breakfast

Fished three days in early August and had a great time. Rooms are good, food was great with BIG portions and all the staff are real friendly and helpful. Matt was my guide for all three days and he was top notch. Caught a bunch of fish on nymphs the first day. Matt was willing to do different things later in day and next two days - did some jigging, streamers and fair amount of dry fly casting. Highlight of trip was 24 inch, 5 lb rainbow on dry fly! What a thrill!! Highly recommend lodge and Matt to anyone wanting a memorable fishing experience on San Juan river.

This was our 4th trip to fish the San Juan. It was our second time at Fishheads. We stayed in the renovated hotel on the river. Hotel is very basic but clean and comfortable. The only inside chairs were two short bar stools. We had a nice small porch overlooking to mountains with a large fence blocking part of the view and limited access to the river. The food was excellent and plentiful. If you don’t want the daily special you need to notify them first thing in the morning. There are are few alternatives to the special. Our guide was excellent and maybe one of the best we have ever had. Fishing was very good and the day was well planned. Now the not so great. This place provides zero communication. The web site indicates meal time are varied but we were limited to specific times
