McCargoe Cove Campground

Great campground with good shelter from the wind, a doc for ferry access and a fire ring. Easy access for dips in the cove or water filtering. Because this is one of the campgrounds with ferry access, it is going to be more crowded because you don't have to hike to get there, so backpackers beware you'll want to get there early to get a shelter site. Both open tent sites and shelters available. We stayed at number 4, view pictured here, was a good spot with a short walk to the outhouse.

This island was featured on a television show that I recently watched on The History Channel, Titled "America Unearthed - Great Lakes Copper Heist". What really grabbed my attention were the truly vast amounts of copper mines on this island, and the actual possibility of copper, mined from this island, could very well have helped 'fuel' The Bronze Age of Europe. I would really love to explore this area someday and post some pictures of some of the mines to Google Earth. Very interesting... very interesting indeed.

Easily one of my favorite campgrounds we visited. Large group site up on the hillside. The cove was beautiful with a small fire ring by the dock
