I stayed here for six days and five nights the last week of March, 2025. The solitude, silence, and stars made the long trek there worth it. Each early morning I was awakened by packs of coyotes yipping in the distance. One day, I drove to Alvord, which was full of water with campers packed together where they could--I was glad I chose Mann Lake instead of that area. A very remote area, yes. I camped on the Steens side of the lake, away from the road. It was a chore getting my travel trailer over there, but I'm glad I did it. The wind sometimes picks up, so be aware of that. During that time of year, there are chilly mornings and nice (60s) afternoons. If you haven't been to this part of Oregon, you definitely need to put it on your bucket list.

Nice. Super Remote. There were a few others camping. The lake looks a little flooded / hard to swim with the edge so weedy. Vault restrooms were spotless. Sites have a picnic table and a fire pit. Lots of extra space to camp too

This is a very wide open area. Camping is in low juniper and other brush. The lake can get a bit warm and it is shallow in many places.

Too hot in early September. Need to lots of water, sunblock lotion and long pants to protect legs from vegetation and snake.

A great free BLM campground just off the gravel road with fantastic views of the steep east side of Steens Mountain. I was there twice: June = no water; Sept = water (go figure). Most sites have picnic tables and the potties are well cared for.
