Hotel Diamond

Spent a few nights here while exploring the Steens and had such a wonderful stay. I love visiting historic hotels and this was no exception. Everything was very clean and super cozy. My upstairs room had an AC window unit that kept it nice and cool in the summer heat, and my bed was super comfortable memory foam. Bathrooms for the rooms on the second floor were shared (two bathrooms for six rooms) and kept clean and well stocked. Communal dinners at night were a really nice way to get to know the other guests, and all of the food was so delicious. Breakfasts were my favorite, as I could take my coffee and food out to the sunroom and watch the chickens in the yard feast away on all of the fallen apples from the apple tree. The last few days we were in the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge we spent a few nights at the charming Hotel Diamond which has been a hotel in some form or another since 1898. Wow, what a wonderful place!! Nothing glamorous, but comfortable and full of charm. Make sure you reserve dinner each night. (Additional fee, and well worth it) Not only was this convenient (there’s no restaurants within 30-50 miles) but it was absolutely delicious!! We had one of the owners, David’s cooking each night and to say that he is an excellent Chef would be downplaying how good (and plentiful) it was. It is served family style for a flat price and is all you can eat. Make sure you save room for dessert!!We met some fellow travelers and birdwatchers from Portland, Bend and the Banks area. Hotel Diamond is a hidden gem. The rooms were clean and nice, the staff is helpful and the dinner was delicious! Perfect if you are riding the BDRx or just exploring the area.

Incredible family run historic hotel. When the owners serve dinner don’t miss the food and experience. We extended our stay for four nights. Great place to see the Steens Mountains, Malhuer Wildlife Refuge, Diamond Crater, etc. Over our stay we met multiple family members who provided 5 star service above and beyond. Love this place! The hospitality, the vibe, the food….it is incredible. Stayed here a few times and loved it everytime. Clean, quiet and the stars are beyond amazing!
