Malone's Sturgeon River Cabins

I have stayed here during the bird hunting season several times and have been in all four cabins at one time or another. These set of cabins are well located south of Wolverine and a reasonable distance from Gaylord and Indian River. It's an easy commute both way for dinner or to visit both. There is a slight musty smell in the cabins but probably to be expected since they are nestled in trees immediately adjacent to a stream. There are picnic tables outside of the cabins. Shirley is quite helpful. If you are looking for something a little more rustic than a hotel these are hard to beat with their location right on the stream.

Just spent the weekend in NMI and stayed at the Malone cabins. I HIGHLY recommend booking a cabin for a couple nights. Cabins are rustic, yet kept clean. The location is perfect, tucked in the woods with much more privacy than a campground. Pricing is very fair, and I feel you get a bigger bang for your buck compared to hotel rooms. And really, if you're staying in NMI a hotel will not give you the experience of unplugging and enjoying nature. The cabins are not far from Petoskey, the bridge, the dark sky park, and the ferry docks for the island. We were able to spend the day in Traverse City (touring wineries) and had time to come back to the cabins to enjoy the rest of the evening. The Malones are very friendly, and made us feel welcomed. I came up here the beginning of August to kayak with friends on the Sturgeon River. These cabins were very cute and clean. I loved being 10 foot from the river. My bowl of cold cereal in the morning tasted a hundred times better when sitting on a picnic table three feet from a gently flowing stream. The Malone's keep their property up so nice. The small negative I would have is that the pillows were too thin. I plan to come back here again next year and bring some friends.

We were on a road trip and passed by the cabins. We called then immediately turned around to see if anything was available. We stayed in Cabin 1 - after cancelling our reservation at a hotel in Petoskey - and it was worth it. The river was just steps from the front porch. The cabin was perfect and we enjoyed the wood stove! The bed was great and the shower nice and hot with plenty of pressure. The Malone's were amazing! We will definitely be back again!

We stayed in cabin 2 in July 2014, there were 2 adult married couples. The cabin has 2 bedrooms and plenty of room for the four of us. We all commented all weekend how beautiful the whole place was. It was very clean, very quiet and we couldn't have asked for anything, it was perfect. We even forgot a crock pot for a meal we had planned and were going to drive to a store to buy one and Shirley provided one to us. ||||It is close to Wolverine and Indian river and kayaking on the sturgeon river is always awesome. We even drove around the Elk viewing areas looking for Elk, no luck but it was fun. ||||The area is covered in trees so that helps keep the cabin cooler but there was enough sun to lay out and catch some rays.
