Lost Forty

A little bit down a country gravel road. But well worth. Make sure you use the bathroom before going as there are no restrooms. Also no water so bring in your lunch, and anything else you need. But the trail is a fairly easy route with lots of beautiful old growth trees. You'll see red pines, white pines and spruce. Along with hardwoods including Birch.

Short hike but intense. It's actually an esker, so you go up and down some rather steep hills. The forest is literally is different and you can see and sense that while you are there.

Cool short hike. Definitely not a day trip place. Takes about 30 min to walk whole trail. Pretty big trees. Trail is well maintained. They have restrooms where parking is. Not a ton of parking so on a busy day could possibly have to wait.

Incredible story of either a mistake by surveyors in 1882 or maybe they got tired of mapping logging sections but this stand of old pine trees has never been harvested so they are very tall and old. Highly recommend visiting this untouched area of MN. Trails are easy and the signs spell out the history of the forest.

It was on my bucket list for a number of years. We were here in early June. My husband died in April. He would have loved being there. We walked the short loop. The trees are magnificent!
