This was a perfectly fine place to stay; you just need to understand the nature of the property. There aren't any amenities like a restaurant or lobby, but the room was clean and pleasant, and had a TV, the you are close to shops and restaurants. Note that the hotel will need to email you the room number and access code, and if you book through a third party such as Expedia, the property won't have your email address. So, you need to call the hotel beforehand and give them your email address so that they can send the information to you the day before.
Aloha, We booked two 2 rooms for Nov 1th. When I made the reservation, I asked is the Credit card would be charged since we were splitting the rooms between the 2 groups. I was told it was to hold the reservation. When we arrived, the receptionist said the card was charged the full amount. I asked for a breakdown of charges so we could settle up. The door code assigned, allowed us into the rooms. After returning at 10ish that night, the code did not let us in the front door. I called the number on the door. no answer. We knocked loudly until a guest let us in. The code no longer allowed us in the rooms. 30 or so minutes later the manger called to say the system changed the codes because we asked to separate the reservation, which we did not. The next day she called to offer a 15% r
Quiet, mellow, and easy to find in the heart of Hawi. Rooms were clean and well lit. Parking lot was very convenient. The front office women were very pleasant and helpful. All around great experience.
My friend and I stayed at the Kohala Village Inn for 1 week. I guess it was a low time of the year for guests in the area, as we were almost the only people at the entire property! We arrived "after hours", so no one was in the office, we had a code to enter the building and our room.|Durng our 7 night stay, we were contacted once by phone to determine if we "wanted service" that day (bed make-up, towels, etc.). No one ever cleaned the room, emptied the garbage, or asked again if we would like any service. We never saw anyone at or near the office during the week. If the hotel management wants to allow for privacy, that would be fine, but the service could have been much better.
This is a good hotel to book for staying on the north part of the Big Island. It is right in the town of Hawi and easy to walk to the shops and restaurants there. There are also a couple other small villages with good dining a few minutes down the road. The hotel itself nothing fancy and has a very homey feel. The room was quite simple, with a couple of large king beds that took up most of the room and a small wicker chest of drawers. The bathroom was large, however. The rooms are arranged around a courtyard with picnic tables, and there is a common room for guests as well. The downside is the cost. It was $520 for 2 nights. I know hotels have gotten expensive, but $260 per night for a very basic room in a small, remote village seemed way overpriced.
