Island Inn|This hotel has been in steady decline since the change in ownership. It’s clear that the present owners are more interested in fast cash and maximizing profit in the short term over building a lasting brand.||When we first arrived, I checked out the place and was appalled at the filthiness of the toilet. It looked like it had been cleaned and then used by someone with digestive issues. I travel with Clorox wipes, so, hoping to find that the problem was simply stains, I cleaned the toilet, and the nastiness came off with no real effort, other than caring enough to do the job.||The place looks nice with fresh paint, but that doesn’t disguise the fact that it’s an older property. Last minute decision looking for a weekend stay and they had availability. The staff (on the phone and in person) are super friendly, and very helpful. Price is fair for the location. Only reason for a 4 star is to be helpful to other consumers. The AC is very loud. Woke me up several times throughout the night. It would be nice if they provided a box of tissues in their rooms. Staff leaves, I believe around 5:00 pm, which I feel is fine. There is a no noise policy; however, our first night, several people, maybe coming in from the bar around 2:00 am were outside being very loud. This did not go on for too, too long, but was an annoyance just the same. Booked a room for Sunday night to Tuesday morning. Booked at 7 pm that evening. By nine pm I was almost to the island. No email or phone call had come in for the door code. I have stayed here before and they have lock boxes for the door keys and it has always been an issue just the door code. Well this time I called and left several voicemails and sent several emails asking for the room number and door code information. At ten pm after sitting for almost an hour I had to instead book a Vrbo home for only myself at $800. Today is Sep 25 2025 and my credit card was charged the full amount for the hotel stay that I could not stay at as no room information or door code was giving. To date the hotel has not called or emailed back either. I had sent a canceling and refund demand email that night

I’ve been coming to N Topsail for years and have been eyeballing this hotel/motel in Surf City for the location. Finally booked this year, called early because we were checking in after 5. (Front desk is closed after 5) .. I was given directions to get into our room. When we arrived I wasn’t sure if the code provided was the door code or the lock box code by the directions I was given. I couldn’t get the lock box open -My fault- I called the number provided and no answer. My husband was able to open the box and get us in the room. After traveling several hours it should be understandable that I didn’t want to figure out anything for myself. One of the ACs was extremely loud throughout our stay, it barely maintained the room. We booked a last minute weekend get away in June. They were so accommodating and had great communication. When we arrived the inn is in a perfect location. The beach is just over the dunes and there are plenty of restaurants within walking distance. The hotel is clean and comfy. The sheets could use an upgrade but the rest was very homey. There is a pool and free parking. We will definitely stay here on our future trips. Thanks for an awesome weekend!
