I want to preface this by saying that we are typically not high maintenance people. We just expect something clean and decent and people to be nice for $200/night. ||||My husband and I were town for a family wedding. Most folks were at the Madison Beach Hotel but that booked up quickly so I looked online for other options. One of the options on the wedding invitations listed the Comfort Inn in Guilford- which I disregarded because we really wanted to stay "in town". ||||In any case, we arrived at 4:30pm on Friday and had to call inside to have them unlock the door for us. We were then greetly very rudely and when I said that I felt like I was intruding, she told me that check in was at 4 and that we "were late". She also said that if we wanted to wait for the manager, we could be check

The Inn at Cafe Lafayette has been the preferred destination for my mother over the past 8 years due to its location and the quality of its rooms. I get the feeling that priority wise this is a restaurant first - Cafe Allegre- which is downstairs and the rooms are second and are located upstairs. I say this because when you arrive, depending on the time, the restaurant can be busy and the attention given to you is less than what you might desire. You get a quick hello and the room keys and simple instructions and off you go. The rooms are spacious and clean and somewhat elegant. All of this is perfect for my mother and the excellent location, in the middle of downtown Madison, makes it easy for her to walk to cafes and the R.J. Julia bookstore, as well as two coffee shops.

No confirmation was received for this reservation so I called to confirm the night before. The person I spoke with was in a big hurry but I was able to confirm our details including a late check-in. We arrived to a dark, locked building. No answer of knock or phone call. Left a message on their answering machine and found another hotel. I received no return call by 4pm the following day.

This had the potential to be an enjoyable stay and upon arrival the Inn looked to be a good choice. However....... The reception/welcome was sorely lacking, arriving on a Monday when the restaurant was closed meant the keys to my room were left in the mailbox - without warning, apology or explanation. Thankfully I found them or I would have been left with the option of finding an alternative place to stay. The room was spacious and full of potential, however the cream furnishings bore more stains than acceptable at this price point and would benefit from a thorough clean and some attention to detail. The most irritating failing on a business stay was lack of a key to access the 'free' internet, which was not provided either with the keys or in the room. As the Inn was closed all tele

My husband and I have been going to the CT Shoreline for about 17yrs now. Our absolute most favorite place in the area is The Inn at Lafayette. ||||It is like no other accomodation in the area in that you never feel like you're at a B&B. We are not the kind of people that enjoy "mingling" with other's during our vacations as we are constantly networking for our careers. And Marty, the Inn Keeper seems to understand that comletely.||||Our stays are always unbelievably quiet and peaceful as if we're always the only one's there and it's actually "our place". ||We absolutely LOVE the private marble bathrooms! Makes us feel like we're in a fancy Manhattan hotel on the inside w/o all the hustle and bustle on the outside. It's so lovely.||||And if you decide to not stay here at least do yourself
