Hotel Whiting

I was concerned after reading the reviews about visiting the Hotel, but upon entry to the room, I was pleasantly surprised. It appears the hotel is / has been refurbished. It is still an historic hotel, just fresher and cleaner than other reviews state. The bed is sooo comfy (block A, Room 1 - Florida) there are nice toiletries and the arm chairs are comfy. My only issues were that (as other reviews have said) it is not a manned reception, it’s a struggle to find your apartment. I had issues as I could not phone reception, being an international caller, so a lovely lady assisted. Once we were in, we were happy! Very quiet peaceful place to stay! We came into town late, I called the hotel to see if we needed to do anything special for a late check in. Joseph was super helpful, and even suggested places in town that would be open to grab a bite to eat since it was later. Room was quiet, clean and spacious. Our room had the full sized bed, not super comfortable for 2, but would work great for a single. Ample space for somebody looking for an extended say with a separate little kitchen area and large closet. Floors are concrete and cold, a rug or 2 would be nice. Water pressure in the shower was strong! I loved it but I could see some people not. I used to stay here for work trips because of its central location in Osage County, and it was really the only clean and safe option in the whole county. The room prices were good as well. The previous owners were super friendly and accommodating, and I really enjoyed the decor in the rooms. Now, the new owner has stripped the rooms (at least the room I stayed in) of all decor. It's like a prison in there! There was no shampoo or body soap available for a shower, just a very small bar of soap and liquid soap for washing your hands. There was couch that I'd never sit or sleep on so that's where my bag went. The floors are so very cold bc it's concrete and not a single rug in sight. It's dreary and sad, really. I felt like I was staying in a prison with a better toilet and bathtub. Thankfull

Enjoyed the stay. Loved the balcony. Was quiet. Clean. Water was almost hot enough ok though. Beds comfy, ac cold, towels soft. Had a step up into bathroom, wife didn't like, kept light on in bathroom so we wouldn't stumble. Negotiated back steps and ramp bridge just fine. Had railing to hold onto. Parking handy.

The rooms are very clean and the manager was fantastic with my booking. The location is superb. If you're looking for a posh 5-star bedroom, this would not be the choice to make. If you're trying to save a couple of bucks and don't mind a bit rustic, you should be good. Bring your slippers (the concrete floor is a bit chilly). The balcony out front is great. Bring your camp chairs during warm weather for the balcony. Folks in Wheelchairs might have issues with the access route because from parking lot, there is an elevated platform to walk across (about 7' and I apologize for not having taken a width on the walkway and door jams).
