We visited this campground the first weekend in October 2023 (site # S-08), which is a back-in site. This site was very large & wide, so backing in a 33ft trailer was easy. The site was almost leveled, but we did lift our tires on the right side slightly so things don't get moved around or have unwanted spills. The campground was very clean and mowed. On our second day, we were visited by a very friendly mommy deer with her twin babies. We didn't pet or feed them, but she didn't mind us being nearby. (See photos) The public restrooms were clean & didn't smell. The view of the lake wasn't great due to the trees, but that too was nearby. We have an annual state parking pass on our tow vehicle, but you must purchase a permit to enter the campground for $10/per day. The lake is massive and abs
Beautiful campground! It's a bit of a rough road but not bad if you don't try to hurry. The camp host was incredibly friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable about the area. The campsite were clean and a fair amount of space between them. The outhouse wasn't too bad either. Tons of trails and scenery to checkout also! Black bears, elk and moose frequent the campsites... especially during the quieter weekdays. Would definitely recommend this as a nice quiet get away!
Awesome campground! Spent 2 nights here and loved it. Used this location as base camp for Mt Sherman. No hookups, hand pump water well. Some sites fit small - mid travel trailers. Ours is 23' and we had no issues. Road from Fairplay to camp is a little bumpy, but not to bad.
We stayed just down the road in the National Forest designated area, which was nice with creek on the side of the road and no other campers for the few days we stayed. Host at Horseshoe campground was very kind and helpful with information. I'm not a fan of the damage to trees by humans and trash left behind, it's not cool, so please find something else to do if that's you.
In planning a hike of Horseshoe Mountain, I had checked online to see if any campsites were available but all were reserved. We took a chance and decided to drive the loop and sure enough, #13 was available due to a cancellation. Plenty of room for a couple large tents, but a bit of a slope for both. Lots of trees help with privacy. Close to trailheads for Mt. Sherman, Sheridan, and Horseshoe. The host was very friendly and helpful. $20/night.
