Holiday Inn Express & Suites Rocky Mount/Smith Mtn Lake by IHG

While not fancy, the room was spacious, very clean, and very comfortable. The staff was professional and personable. The breakfast buffet was exceptional -- one of the best I've ever had. Scrambled eggs, omelets, bacon, sausage, oatmeal , cereals, made to order pancakes, baked goods, warm cinnamon rolls to die for, coffee, OJ, and lots more. The lovely lady in charge of the buffet could not have been more pleasant and accommodating. Coffee and tea available in the rooms and lobby 24-7. The only snag was I had requested an early check-in and the hotel confirmed it, however, the room wasn't ready. No problem, the very helpful young man at the desk immediately found another comparable room that was ready. Not a complaint, just a glitch that was remedied immediately.

Room was good size, and bed and pillows were great! Wish there was a microwave in the room. Also, the shower was amazing, perfect water pressure I like! The breakfast was good but the biscuits would have been better with bacon option, gravy, or even oatmeal. Sausage is not for everyone. Otherwise breakfast was decent. Overall our stay was pretty nice and the staff was super nice as well.

Walking into the hotel it smelled very clean. The front desk staff was nice. We got to our room and it was clean. It was a little worn and could use some TLC but it was clean. We were on the 2nd floor and I always ask to be on high floors and this hotel is only 3 floors and I ask to be away from elevators and the place me across from elevators. You hear everything in the hallways and nothing but police, ambulance, fire trucks, dump trucks etc all night long. The water seems to go cold after 11pm and the people in my party who had their own room said the same thing, no hot water at all but the next morning it was back very hot. Breakfast was ok, bagels, bread, cinnamon rolls, turkey sausage patties, cheese omelets, veggie omelet, pancake maker, cereal, biscuits and gravy, muffins. Great loc

Anyone saying the breakfast here I is lacking is plum crazy. This little hotel has a better breakfast layout than ANY hotel in it class across the country. I'm a 30-year USAF vet and now travel working for the DoW and I see a broad variety of places. The breakfast here is really top notch. The hotel itself does a pretty good job too considering the truckers that come through abusing the property. Thank you Mary and Crystal; super job!

I had a wonderful stay, and I especially want to recognize Tyler for making it truly exceptional. He went out of his way to extend our stay and was incredibly helpful, welcoming, and kind throughout the entire process. The hotel itself was very clean, and it’s clear the staff takes great pride in maintaining the property. That said, Tyler truly made the stay feel homey and welcoming—the kind of hospitality that turns a nice hotel into a place you genuinely enjoy being.
