Historic Union Hotel and Apartments

Charlie and his precious dog Rosie were the best host that we could have asked for. Charlie is not only friendly, but he's incredibly funny. Rosie came into our room this morning just to make sure that we remember to take everything home with us. This is a very historic hotel, but it is not haunted Some of the rooms have the original brickwork and hardwood floors. They're absolutely beautiful. We are going to go back again, and request another room, just for the historic adventure. Thank you Charlie and Rosie for a wonderful weekend.

Very dusty, bedding has seen better days. Wouldn’t stay here again. Was an uncomfortable night. Hotel needs a thorough cleaning and new beds and bedding. Towels were old as well. I grew up in Union and was familiar with the hotel when people rented out apartments monthly. Disappointed to say the least!

Absolutely loved staying here. Owner was the absolute sweetest, and to be greeted by a sheep dog named Rosie? What more could you possibly want. In addition to the extremely rich history of this place we found it to be clean, relaxing, and the perfect place to stop off for a night and enjoy some quality time without the distractions of modern technology. We’ll absolutely be back to explore the other rooms which each have their own characters charms. 10/10 experience.

To everyone not leaving a 5⭐️ review—you might just have too high of expectations. This hotel is an antique! Of course it’s not going to be your standard, modern experience, especially when it comes to things like elevators and accessibility. But is it absolutely beautiful? Yes. It has a “choose your own adventure” and “help yourself” kind of vibe. If you’re particular or expecting Hilton-level amenities, maybe stay at a Hilton. But if you’re looking for a comfy bed, a clawfoot bathtub, and a place with real character—this is it. Each room is unique and beautiful in its own way. It was so refreshing to unplug—no TVs in the rooms, minimal tech—just a peaceful, quiet stay in a big, gorgeous space. And fun fact: Annie Oakley stayed here! My wife and I stayed here and as middle point between la grande and baker city. Price point was great. Staff was kind, dogs were sweet, and so much history in this place. As noted it’s NOT the Ritz, and that’s okay. The room was clean, the bed was a bit worn but comfy enough, Although noisy. The town is charming and we were able to unwind and relax. Will be back.
