Hillside Cottages

A friend and I stayed recently for two nights. Both of our rooms were nice. The kitchenette was clean and modern, and would be appreciated for a longer stay. Bed was comfortable, shower with great water pressure. Wifi fast.Very reasonable. I biked on TripAdvisor, and heard quickly from owner by email when I booked 2 rooms to make sure I hadn't made a mistake. Would stay here again. Bring your own hair dryer. My only complaint is the air freshener used, but I found it and unplugged it. 😎

Quaint and lovely little gem! Privately owned and run, this was a treasure to find and you better believe we'll be staying here again if we need a room while passing through! Our room was decorated with 1950s themed decor and was very clean. The beds were quite comfortable. The owner was very nice and stayed up until we got there. The area was vert quiet and had the feel that we could have slept with the doors unlocked like when I was a kid. Absolutely recommend.

A homey atmosphere at a reasonable price. Clean rooms, very helpful and friendly staff. Each room decorated with a different theme which makes you feel like you're staying in someone's home. No extra whistles or bells to pay for, just a neat little place off of the interstate that will allow you to enjoy a good nights rest. Called ahead while traveling down the interstate to check availability of rooms. Owner requested no pre credit card commitment to hold the room until we arrived. Will definitely recommend this hotel to anyone.

Can't get a room because they never answer the phone or call you back. I've called 5-6 times and nothing. If this is indicative of their customer service, I guess it wouldn't be a good stay.

My husband and I came to Iowa for the funeral of his brother, we needed a close place to stay. I found Hillside online and loved the looks of it including the themed rooms. Looks are often deceiving. When we checked in we were greeted by the proprietor wearing pajama's, wrapped in a blanket. She knew we were coming and approximately our arrival time. The rooms are not themed, we were left with 1 towel apiece and only 1 wash clothe for us to share. When we knocked on the door to inquire it was never answered. Eventually we checked out early and never looked back.
