Hawks Nest State Park

If you love nature and scenic views, stay here. The Lodge has simple basic rooms with very scenic views. My husband and I enjoyed sitting on the balcony listening to the trains going by and the birds singing. There is a wonderful restaurant with a view of the New River Gorge. The food is bar food style, but still delicious. There is trails near the lodge.

This place is awesome! The boat tours specifically. Our boat driver was very knowledgeable about the bridges and told us all about it! And he was very nice! The few bridges are a sight to see. They have very beautiful views! Most definitely recommended.

I recently ate at their restaurant and oh wow, those pepper jack Mac and cheese bites are good haha. Every part of my experience was great. The view while you are eating dinner and watching the sun set is amazing. The staff were great and the atmosphere was relaxed. I definitely recommend!

The room was clean. Pretty no frills, but it's a lodge at a state park so it's mostly for comfort, not style. Only problems were the coffee pot didn't work and one of the handles on the sink needed repaired. Both were taken care of quickly. Everyone was so friendly and helpful.

Beautiful state park and lodge just north of the national park. The Lodge is very interesting architecturally (mid-century modern design) and well maintained, with nice rooms and a great restaurant. For the best views just go to the lodge and the Hawks Nest Overlook - no need to hike. Trails could use a little work but the routes offer good access to the river. The tram is under construction as of October 2025.
