Hamakua Hotel

Hidden away north of Hilo 30 minutes is this marvelous B&B on the edge of a cliff overlooking the ocean. Originally a home, it now has 6 bedrooms to offer. We had #3 and had the best view I think. Morning breakfasts were wonderfully prepared by the chef who was very attentive and personable. Our room were immaculate and the beds comfortable. I noted it seemed the resident team took efforts to provide superior quality amenities. The grounds were beautifully maintained with many coconut palms and gardens. Very enjoyable and relaxing to walk around.

We stayed for five nights on our honeymoon. We like small boutique hotels and appreciate those small details. The staff is excellent - they all do a terrific job of making your stay special. Little did we know when we booked that we would be having a 6 course dinner at the hotel three of the nights. We enjoyed wonderful meals shared with the other guests at the hotel. The location is fantastic - the views of the ocean are breathtaking. We were upgraded after the first night; well worth moving rooms. The views on the porch are just amazing, and we spent a bit of time enjoying the views there. Staying on the Hilo side was great - we did lots of hiking from there, went to Green Sand beach, and enjoyed the ride to Kona for a few things we wanted to see there. Highly recommend checking t

This hotel exceeded expectations in every way. The rooms were very clean and updated, bed was super comfy. They clearly put lots of thought and care into renovating this place and it shows - everything feels very high-end. The ocean views were impeccable. What stood out the most was the food: the 7 course dinners that are included were high-end restaurant quality (menu is created by a Michelin star chef). The dinners were served at a big table with all the hotel guests together and it was very cool to get to know our neighbors over dinner. We didn’t even know about the dinners when we booked our stay so needless to say it was such a nice surprise that they don’t just include complimentary dinner, but the highest quality dinners imaginable. We had such a lovely stay here from beginning till the end. Valerie (MD) was caring so well for us, but basically also everyone else on property. Stunning view, really beautiful room and nice amenities. The breakfast did not offer a huge choice of options but we were so satisfied with what we got every single day and still talk about how much we miss it. And I am a picky eater … everything very fresh and tasty. After our five nights here we really felt home already, it was hard to leave. I would really like to emphasize that the 7 course dinners on Tuesday, Friday and the chefs choice dinner on Saturday are included!!! We had an amazing experience at Hamakua Hotel! It is simply a hidden gem. The rooms are tasteful and spacious. The grounds are peaceful and elegant. Special shout-out to Valerie for making us feel so welcome and Joseph for an amazing dinner!
