Another cool campground that's falling apart, aren't our tax dollars being spent wisely? Free to camp with reservation with Suwannee Water Mgt., 8 miles of rugged road to get to the dozen sites. Picnic tables (falling apart), fire pits, no grills, spot a pots refreshed weekly, but also falling apart. Great spot for kayaking in the Wacissa River. Quite busy on Saturdays, rest of the week it's pretty empty. Only trail is 2 miles from the campground, take the road you came in on back to the info sign, you'll see the FL trail sign.
Beautiful place. It's free too. There's several miles of unpaved road you have to drive through, and the little rocks can get tossed and chip your car paint. Also, unfortunately some people will run their LOUD gas powered generator for hours on end or even all night. Maybe they don't care about others or maybe they don't see the contradiction. You would think people camp for 3 main reasons and a generator snubs out 1 of those reasons. I know people with RVs love running their generators but if you need electricity while CAMPING then why in the world would they not want to just use quiet solar panels ??? Make it make sense please.
Nice place. It's 8 Miles off the main road, the road is bumpy. It has a small boat ramp. There are a couple picnic tables by the water you can eat on. You might want to bring a cover. Some of the picnic tables are old. I can't hear on Feb 26 2023. The bugs were not bad. Camped in my Astro Van.
This is a wonderful camping spot by the river. It's free and a first come first serve. So, depending on the days you arrive here, you might not get a spot to camp. But the important thing to keep in mind is the campsite closes for the gun season between November 4 and January 23. I guess they still let you use the boat ramp during the day. The campsite is pretty primitive besides a few portable toilets. You should bring your own water. The aucilla river flowing by the campsite is just beautiful and great for fishing or kayaking if you get yours. The water is just pristine. There are about 10 individual campsites and a separate group use area but you do have to make prior reservations for the group camping. The individual sites have firepits and wooden tables, which are decaying. But it's
Great camping site with portajohns, tables, and campfire spots. We stayed for a hot weekend in August and canoed up the river for a bit of fishing. Interacting with the wildlife was fun, but bring plenty of bugspray. Only issue is there were some campers set up for permanent living and one of them ran their very loud generator all night. Other than that would recommend for a fun place to camp and canoe.
